Larry Kendall is the Regional Director of the West Virginia
Governor’s Highway Safety Program. His program area includes
the western counties of the state. He is also the Director of
the Safe Traffic Operations Program (STOP) located in
Huntington. He has been the regional traffic safety director
for 15 years. He began his career at the
City of Huntington as a communications operator/dispatcher
for the Huntington Police Department. After 14 years in the
police department, he moved to the public works department in
the traffic engineering division working as the City’s Traffic
Engineering Technical Assistant for three years. On December
7, 1988, he took over the reigns of the then newly created
Safe Traffic Operations Program. He has also been the West
Virginia Contact for
SADD National for the past six years.
The
Mission of STOP is to reduce the number of crashes, injuries
and fatalities on West Virginia’s streets and highways. STOP’s
programs include DUI prevention, seat belt and child safety
seat education, corporate safety programming, and various
youth programs including SADD of West Virginia.
As the
contact for
SADD-West Virginia, Larry’s goals include increasing the
number of SADD chapters in West Virginia and increasing the
awareness about SADD and SADD’s objectives to schools,
corporate agencies, law enforcement and legislators throughout
West Virginia.
