License Renewal Fees

The Division of Motor Vehicles makes it easier for you to remember the expiration of your driver's license or identification card. Under the "Drive for Five" program, all driver's licenses - including CDL's - will expire in the birth month at an age divisible by five. For example, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, etc.

Under this program your license will be valid for five years instead of the previous four year cycle. But before you begin the five year cycle, we may need to phase you in to the program. In order to do this, your initial license will be issued for a period ranging from three to seven years, depending on your calculated age at the time of renewal. For instance, if you're calculated age is 34 when your license expires, you'll be issued a six-year license that will expire when you are 40.

Please note that the license fees have not increased. The fees may be more or less for this renewal period, depending on the number of years for which the license will be valid. To help you calculate your renewal period and cost, please refer to the charts below. Your renewal fee and years of expiration will also be printed on the front of your renewal card.
