Signs
The specific business
information, or Logo Sign Program, has been developed to address the
erection of official highway signs to inform Interstate highway
motorists of the availability of certain essential highway services.
Fuel, food, lodging and camping only may be shown on logo signs.
General Regulations
Each business identified on a logo sign shall give written assurance
that it is in conformity with all applicable laws concerning
provision of public accommodations without regard to race, religion,
color, gender or national origin and it shall not be in breach of
that assurance.
Logo signs may be installed if each service meets the minimum
criteria specified. "Division of Highways Logo Sign
Program," a guide and application form are available upon
request from the DOH
Traffic Engineering Division.
The number of business establishments displaying their logo symbols
at each interchange shall not exclude six for fuel, six for food,
six for lodging and six for camping. If the number of qualifying
business establishments at any interchange exceeds this maximum
allowable, then the shortest measured distances between each
business and the interchange shall determine which logo symbols will
be displayed. Distances from the facility shall be measured from the
entrance to the facility along connecting roadways to the nearest
exit ramp.
A business establishment may only be considered for participation at
the nearest Interstate interchange.
The maximum distance which facilities can be located from the
Interstate is three miles. However, an exception is made if, within
that three miles, services of the type being considered are not
available. In this case, the limit of eligibility may be increased
in three-mile increments, up to a maximum of 15 miles, until
services of the type being considered are reached.
It shall be possible for a motorist to leave the Interstate, proceed
to the stated service, and have convenient reentry to the Interstate
to continue in his or her original travel direction. Logo signing
shall not be installed at interchanges between two Interstate
routes.
Excluded Segments
Due to the number and sequence of interchanges, the availability of
outdoor advertising, the visibility of services from the Interstate
and the proliferation of other essential guide signs, certain
segments of the Interstates have been excluded from the Logo Sign
Program. They are:

Interchange to I-77 in Charleston
- I-77 from the MacCorkle
Avenue Interchange (Charleston South on the Turnpike) to the
