Service Signs
Motorist Service Signs on Expressways
On conventional highways, motorist services such as fuel, food
lodging and camping are generally within sight and available to the
traveler along the route. It is also assumed that service signing,
except for hospitals, police assistance and tourist information will
not be needed in cities and towns.
On expressways, however, it is quite likely that motorist service
signs will be desirable or necessary outside of cities and towns
where such services are infrequent, and where they can be found only
on an intersecting crossroad. Therefore, the Division of Highways
will erect symbol service signs on expressways in rural areas when
requested by qualifying businesses. They are erected at no cost to
the business. Signs may be installed for fuel, food, lodging and
camping facilities, and for hospitals.

Only services that adequately serve the needs of the motorist shall
