Civil
Engineering Cooperative Education Program
The West Virginia Department of
Transportation/Division of Highways participates in the statewide Cooperative
Education Program for Civil Engineers. The purpose of the program is to
provide meaningful transportation-related work experience for civil engineering
students attending West Virginia University and West Virginia University
Institute of Technology.

Summer Civil Engineering Co-op Program
The purpose of the Summer
Civil Engineering Co-op Program is to provide meaningful transportation-related
work experience for civil engineering students.
In order to qualify for the
Summer Civil Engineering Co-op Program, you must meet all of the
following criteria:
- Be enrolled in a Bachelor
of Science program in Civil Engineering
- Satisfactorily completed
(2.0 GPA) at least 24 semester hours
- Be enrolled full-time
(12 hrs.) the semester preceding and succeeding the summer for
which you are applying
- Attach an unofficial
copy of your most recent transcript to the application
As a summer co-op employee
you will be a temporary full-time employee and as such will not
be eligible for retirement benefits, insurance, sick or annual leave,
extended leave benefits, cost of living raises, etc. summer co-ops
can only be employed for a maximum of four months per work session.
The deadline for accepting
applications is March 1st. All civil engineering students attending
West Virginia University or West Virginia University Institute of
Technology must submit their applications to the respective Civil
Engineering Department. All other civil engineering students must
submit their applications to the West Virginia Department of Transportation
address shown on the application. If you do not submit a completed
application by the deadline, you will not be considered for this
summers Co-op Program.
If employed, you will be
notified by letter to your home address by the last week of March
as to where and when you can report to work. You can expect to start
to work around the middle of May.
