Aeronautics Commission

The West Virginia DOT supports 37 public airports in West Virginia. Of these, nine have scheduled commercial airline service, while 28 are smaller general aviation facilities.

State Aeronautics Grant Program
From 1989 to 1996, the WV Aeronautics Commission distributed $2.5 million in state air facility improvement funds, which helped enable $54 million in projects at 20 airports. The grant program is supported by the state tax on aircraft fuel.

Several new airports have been proposed or are being studied. One is the West Virginia Regional Airport, a major regional airport and commercial/industrial park; the others are smaller general aviation facilities.
