| Training and
Certification Programs for Technicians |
Mid-Atlantic Region Technician
Certification Program
West Virginia has been actively
involved with the development of the Program since it started in 1999.
The Program is progressing very well. The states participating are:
Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia
and The District of Columbia.
The technical areas that the Region
is working on are: soils and aggregates, concrete, asphalt and pavement
markings.
It was realized early on that there
were many differences between states, however there were also many
similarities. Training manuals are being developed around the core test
procedures that are used by all states. Test procedures, which are
particular to only part of the states, are also being included in the
manuals. Written test questions will cover all test procedures but only
core test procedures will be included in proficiency tests. Technical
and good practices information is also being included in training
manuals. The result is an all around training material that gives
technicians a thorough knowledge in the field of certification. When
technicians cross state lines, then they will only need to learn
information specific to that state.
The goal is to have the Program up
and running by the end of 2002.
